Brands of Nations – First Ever Global Survey on How the World Sees the World

The Anholt Nation Brands Index, powered by GMI, is the first analytical ranking of the world's nation brands. Each quarter, the Index, led by nation brands expert Simon Anholt, surveys 25,900 consumers in 35 nations. The consumers are surveyed on their perceptions of the cultural, political, commercial and human assets, investment potential and tourist appeal of each nation. This adds up to a clear measurement of national brand power, and a unique barometer of global opinion.

The Anholt Nation Brands Index is:

  • Global – The Anholt Nation Brands Index offers a global perspective of your nation’s brand through its access of 6 million consumers worldwide in over 200 countries and territories.

  • Proprietary Methodology – The Anholt Nation Brands Index, powered by GMI's global software, panels and data collection capability, uses unique proprietary methodology to measure a nation’s brand value. The six key verticals studied include: exports, governance, investment and immigration, culture and heritage, people and tourism.

  • Cost-Effective – Why pay hundreds of thousands to conduct your nation brand research on an ad hoc basis? The Anholt Nation Brands Index offers a cost-effective solution that allows you to study a nation’s value.

How Does Your City Rank?

VisitBritain & Anholt Simon "At VisitBritain, we were excited to hear about the introduction of the Anholt Nation Brands Index because the development of a powerful destination brand is a key part of our strategy for attracting more visitors to the UK.

Perceptions of and attitudes towards nations are a complex blend of experiences developed over long periods of time, and across a number of dimensions - many of which are those surveyed in the NBI. The survey is a cost-effective and timely way of monitoring opinions of UK amongst 17 of VisitBritain's key target markets - making it easier for us to identify strengths, weaknesses and shifting perceptions over time."
